Performance Tasks

Performance tasks are to be used formatively to provide  information to students and teachers regarding students’ progress toward mastery.   There should be ample time for further instruction and subsequent learning after implementing the performance tasks.  Performance Tasks set expectations for student thinking and production as outlined in the California State Standards.

Each core content teacher must administer one performance task each semester in their respective core content courses.  PLCs are encouraged to use District Created Performance Tasks, which have been revised and updated through several cycles.  The second option for PLCs (ELA and Math in grades 7, 8, and 11 only) is to utilize SBAC Interim  Performance Task assessments.   Finally, PLCs can choose to create their own Performance Tasks, so long as they adhere to SUHSD established criteria.

This year we are piloting an alternate PT criteria that focuses on designing paired text tasks that can be administered in one block period or less. PLCs can participate in the Alternate PT pilot by visiting the Alternate PT website and creating a performance Task using the criteria provided.

District Performance Tasks will be made available in this Google Folder  and can be implemented through Illuminate. You can access the Illuminate ID’s HERE  and here are the instructions for administering through Illuminate.

2023-2024  Windows

The suggested 4-week windows for 2023-2024 school year are as follows:

Fall:  October 16 – November 10

Spring:  February 19 – March 15

Each site should create a staggered window so that students are not taking multiple Performance Tasks during the same week.  You can administer earlier than this window, but not later, as that will not allow sufficient time for analysis and reteaching.

Data Protocol and Reflection

PLCs should utilize this Data Protocol before and after administration.  Then, student work should be analyzed using this Performance Task PLC Reflection  at the conclusion of the testing window.  If you choose administer the SBAC performance task, site administration will need to provide time for teachers to score and enter results in the SBAC Hand Scoring System (SBAC Log-in required can be provided by your site administration).
